Duffy Theatre Show

Wow! We got to see the latest Duffy Theatre Show called...

 Here are some of us with the actors and the work we created with Mrs McCann. These are hybrid creatures made up of different animal parts. We gave them some interesting names. You can see we worked together to create them. Is it a cat or a dog or a chicken?!

Here are Tamatea, Te Ara, Karenna, Ellie, Jahnelle and Shaydon with the Duffy actors.

We are really lucky at our school that the Otaki Rotary Club sponsors the Books in Homes scheme so we can enjoy free books and get to see the Duffy Theatre shows.

Animations

We have been learning to use the class chromebook to create some STOP-GO animations with Vicki. 

We know to move our characters and objects just a little each time. We used teamwork to 'capture' the image and record the sound. It's been lots of fun!

Here is Jahnelle and Ellie's first try. Then they were able to teach some other Room 10 kids.

 

Shadow puppets

One day some of us were on the mat with Mrs P. We were reading a book about shadow puppets. After we read the book, we saw the instructions for how to make shadow puppets. We decided to try it. 

We made puppets and tried them out. They were so good other people in the class wanted to make some too. 

We had to draw our puppets and glue it into black paper and cut it out. 

Then we had to tape a straw on it to hold it up. 

Ms P made a stage for us. She cut a hole in a box and taped some paper over the hole. Then we used a lamp to reflect the shadow puppets onto the stage.

Can you see a dragon, a bird and an alien?

We are going to make up some stories to act out with our puppets.

Crocodiles and Monkeys!

We read the story Monkey and Crocodile. We looked at the characters and wrote some adjectives to describe them.

 

                                                                              

We looked online to see if there were any YouTube videos about the same story and there is!
Some parts of the story were the same and some parts were different. When different people retell the same story it never stays the same.


Here are some excerpts from our retelling.

Crocodile was annoyed about only eating boring fish. He wanted to eat a monkey! - Lole

" I will help you get across the river" said crocodile.- Karenna

We know the story is FICTION but Hakopa and Shaydon wanted to find out some real FACTS. Did you know...

Crocodiles can stay under water for up to 6 hours.

They have the strongest bite in the world.

They have cold blood and are Reptiles.

Lockdown time

We created Lockdown Patchwork houses that show us safe inside our house bubble while Covid19 was outside. Look carefully at our houses and see if you can see us in our doorway AND our imaginary Covid19 outside. Some of them are scary!

We wrote about WHO was in our bubble, WHERE we were and WHAT we liked and did not like and WHAT we missed.
